Fertilization occurs when the sperm meets the egg in the fallopian tube and penetrates it. Later the sperm’s body and tail breaks off. Then the head of the sperm unite forces with the egg’s nucleus – each containing half the number of chromosome usually found in the human cell, i.e. 46. Then the 23 sperm chromosome pair up with the 23 egg chromosome. Every piece of genetic information now contains in this tiny cell that will help your baby flourish in to a child then an adult whom you will know and love.
Twins
Twin fertilization happens when the egg divides into two in the beginning stage. This creates genetically identical twins that are of the same sex, or when two separate eggs are fertilized by separate sperms, produces fraternal, non-identical twins who may be of the same or different sexes.

You and your partner each contribute half of the constituents to create this new human being – and your genes are rearranged in a completely unique way. The differences between your genes and your partner’s will determine the sex of your baby. Every egg that a woman produces contains an X chromosome because a female genetic make-up is XX. In the case of sperm there are two types of genetic make-up: X sperm (when combine with an egg will create a girl baby) and Y sperm (will make a boy baby). Even if you have a girl or a boy, it is all decided at the time of fertilization, long before you came to know you are pregnant.

Fertilization combines the genetic material of the sperm and the egg within a single cell. This is practically true even if you have conceived by natural or via an assisted reproductive technique. Fertility problems also depend on your age and your health conditions. You are less likely to have fertility difficulty if you are in your 20’s,so don’t panic and rush to your doctor if nothing has happened even if it has been three months.
However, if you are in your late 30’s or even 40’s, and you don’t conceive in a period of six months its necessary to go in for a fertility test. It’s definitely hard for the couples if they are diagnosed with fertility problems particularly when they are bounded by pregnant friends and family members.
