Exercising during pregnancy is a good way to ensure that your body is in good health. You may be ready to start your exercise routine and your body may seem to be able to take a bit of strain. However, you need to talk to your doctor and check if it’s okay for you to start exercising. Pregnant women who are in the high risk category are advised against exercising as it can harm their body than help. Does that mean you can go for an extensive workout if you are not in the high risk category? Absolutely not. Staying active during pregnancy does not mean going for the burn. Your body releases a hormone called ‘relaxin’ during pregnancy that loosens the joints in preparation for delivery. Extensive exercising can lead to injuries in joints or ligaments. Therefore it’s not a good idea to take up strenuous exercise and you should always listen to your body and stop when you feel that you have done enough.
Why Exercising Is Important During Pregnancy
Wondering why is it important to exercise while you are pregnant? After all shouldn’t you be getting adequate rest? Well, the reason is that most women hardly get any exercise while they are pregnant and as their pregnancy progresses, they tend to become less fit. A good exercise program will counteract this trend and will ensure that the fitness level does not drop too low. An ideal exercise program will help in reducing your backache by strengthening your muscles and in building your endurance level without causing undue physical stress for you or your baby.
Few things to keep in mind while you are exercising are:
Avoid exercising lying on your back after third month of pregnancy
Avoid long periods of standing
Exercising early morning or late evening can help avoid overheating
Ensure proper ventilation while exercising indoors
Drink plenty of fluids even if you are not thirsty.
