Baby Development In Second Month Of Pregnancy
Second month of pregnancy begins from the 5th week and lasts up to the 8th week. By the second month of pregnancy, the development of the baby will be in full swing! From this month onwards the embryo will be referred to as fetus. The arms and legs start developing at a good pace and the little fingers and toes begin to form. During the initial months, the arms develop faster than the legs. The baby’s eyes and ears too start developing, however, the eye lids remain sealed and the fetus will not be able to see or hear. A close look at the gums would reveal that the tooth buds are beginning to appear.
During the second month of pregnancy, the translucent skin of the fetus makes the veins clearly visible throughout the body. The heart will be divided into four chambers by now and will be efficiently pumping blood. Also, the heartbeat can be heard during the second month ultrasound. At this stage, the head will be proportionally large since the brain starts developing rapidly. Spontaneous movements in the womb would have begun, even though the mother cannot feel it.
The fetus, during the 2nd month of pregnancy, would have developed to one-inch in length but will still weigh less than an ounce. All the internal organs would have formed by the end of the eighth week of pregnancy. It’s amazing that by the end of the second month of pregnancy, all major body systems like the nervous, digestive, circulatory and urinary systems would start functioning.

The tryst with morning sickness continues into the second month of pregnancy and the hormonal changes can cause nausea or dizziness. The areolas, pigmented area around the nipple, darkens and you may experience heaviness or soreness in your breasts. You may also feel that your waistline is increasing even though you have not put on any significant weight.
From the second month of pregnancy onwards, you will be able to notice a glow in your skin and your skin will appear to be flawless. The hair becomes thick and shiny. Most women experience pregnancy gingivitis, which is a common phenomenon noticed from the 2nd month of pregnancy onwards. This is a condition where your gum’s will start bleeding while you brush your teeth. To maintain healthy gums and teeth, brush and floss regularly and always use a soft tooth brush.
Pregnancy in second month will be accompanied by an increase in vomiting due to the increased HCG level. Some of the other common symptoms of pregnancy in the second month are frequent urination, increase in vaginal discharge, increase in salivation and a totally detested feeling of indigestion. These symptoms are the result of the digestive system slowing down in order to allow the bloodstream to pass more nutrients to the baby.
Second Month Of Pregnancy : Care & Precautions
5th week of pregnancy onwards, you need to ensure that you take extra care. This is the time when most on the integral parts of the baby are formed. Avoiding alcohol, tobacco, caffeine and drugs is a must to ensure proper development of you baby. Though the chances of contracting an infection from food at this stage is low, it is advisable to avoid unpasteurized dairy products, uncooked or undercooked eggs & meat, offal and offal based produce. In addition, taking all the required vitamins and iron supplements will make sure that your little one is healthy.
A visit to the doctor during 2nd month of pregnancy is essential to determine the development of the fetus. During the second month visist, you will undergo blood tests to measure HCG and iron levels, urine tests to check glucose, protein, white blood cells and bacteria. Diet and exercise may be prescribed based on your health condition during the second month of pregnancy.
