Until recently, postpartum depression was a condition which was not given much of an importance. It was mostly ignored which is one of the reasons as to why most women suffered without any help. It is roughly estimated that about 60 to 80 percent of all new mothers have postpartum depression. Some women have mild postpartum depression while others get immobilized by it.
The causes of postpartum depression are complex. In the past, it has been attributed to hormonal imbalance and other medical reasons. However, recent research suggest that societal factors such as pressure to get back to normal quickly can lead to postpartum depression.
