Spoiled children typically do not know the value of money as they are use to getting whatever they ask for. Hence, the first step is to teach the child the value of money. Let them know that everything comes for a price and they will not get things unless they earn it. Making the child do little tasks like cleaning their room, or doing their homework for getting the thing they want teaches them not to take anything for granted.
Spoiled children do not appreciate what they have. They need to understand that everyone is not as lucky as they are. Make it a habit of taking the child to volunteering organizations where they can see children of their age not getting the luxuries they take for granted. Also, making them donate their old toys to the less fortunate ones makes them realize the hardships of others .
Parents should keep a track as to when a child exhibits tantrums. So the next time the child asks for something they can simply enumerate all these behaviors and refuse to give them their coveted object. One may even take away one of their dear objects as a punishment. This will make the child understand that they cannot get away with bad behavior and tantrums thereby forcing them to be careful.
Parents should not give in to their children’s demands or tantrums. Often, after long hours of confrontations, most parents are tempted to give in just to make their child happy. Rewarding the child on a good deed is fine. But spoiling the child on a regular basis with extravagant gifts is not. Parents should not try to make up for their lack of bonding with gifts. That way, the child becomes more spoil t and starts replacing people with materialistic things.
