Do Men Experience Pregnancy Symptoms When Their Wife Is Pregnant?
It is a common sight that men who have pregnant wives also gain weight during the forty weeks that their wives are pregnant. The reason that these men have pregnancy or even postpartum bellies is because it is one of the many ways that they can show support to their pregnant wives.
Many women crave for many different things during their pregnancy and most often than not, one of the cravings that the expectant mothers have is about food and lots of it too. Unfortunately, there are times that the mothers to be lose their appetites in the middle of eating what they craved for and some husbands to show support, eat the food that was left by their wives, the result of this is weight gain.
Common Pregnancy Symptoms In Men
Studies have shown that there are many men with pregnant wives who buy their own set of what they call paternity clothes. These clothes are mainly made up of soft-banded pants and larger shirts. A survey that was conducted among the fathers-to-be showed that on average, the expectant father gains around fourteen pounds and about two inches around the waist. Mothers-to-be on the other hand gain on average, thirty-five pounds and more than two inches around the waist. The fact though is this, women gain weight because there is a baby growing inside her womb, there are fluids that support the baby and of course there’s also the weight gain from all the food that the pregnant wife eats when she craves for something. And the husbands, well, they gain weight because they eat what ever is inside the fridge and sometimes the food that their pregnant wives leave mid-meal.
Once the baby is born, some mothers encounter a difficult time in losing all the weight that they gained during their pregnancy and this is also true for the fathers. According to the results of the studies, thirty-one percent of men tried to lose the weight that they gained along with their partners.
For some women, this obvious weight gain of their spouses is a welcome sight. It helps to take away the eyes and even criticisms of other people of how much weight the mother-to-be gained during her pregnancy. And it also is a source of encouragement to the mother to lose the extra pounds that she gained along with a partner who is supportive of her and her goals.
Weight gain for both the parents-to-be is quite normal. The important thing is that both parents keep in mind that they need to be healthy during the pregnancy and especially after the baby is born. The postpartum belly and weight can be shed off, as long as both partners encourage and support each other.
